Spéos is involved in a new project: Quai de la Photo, a floating art centre dedicated to contemporary photography, which will be built in 2023 on the Seine. The Spéos students will have access to this innovative cultural and artistic venue, where some of the school’s courses and conferences will take place.

A unique place

Quai de la Photo benefits from a privileged location on the Seine, next to the Bibliothèque nationale de France, in the 13th arrondissement of Paris.
It is a hybrid place that combines photography, navigation and catering.

Its ambitions are:
– To discover contemporary photography through open access exhibitions, photo workshops and meetings with photographers.
– To explore Paris from the river aboard vintage and small electric boats.
– To relax and eat on the boat’s terrace, surrounded by exhibitions and animations.

Spéos adds the photographic dimension

“With Spéos, I am happy to add the photographic dimension to the Quai de la Photo project. We thought of this new place as a new platform for contemporary photography, in the heart of the city and on its main artery: the Seine.”
– Pierre-Yves Mahé, Director of Spéos

The photo exhibitions will occupy the entire space, covering more than 1,000 m². They will be open to the public and will be displayed on the terrace during summer.
Quai de la Photo will also have a professional photo studio and a specialist bookshop.
Introductory courses and photo workshops will be scheduled, as well as meetings with photographers during lectures and presentations.

The school has brought on board several of its long-standing partners: Magnum Photos, the magazine Polka and the laboratory Picto.

Opening in spring 2023

Quai de la Photo will open in spring 2023. The barge is currently under construction at the Manche Industrie Marine shipyard in Dieppe, Seine-Maritime.
