“Iconoclaste”: AFP exhibition and auction at Quai de la Photo

From 29 September to 14 October 2023, Agence France Presse will be presenting “Iconoclaste” at Quai de la Photo. This exhibition of 200 unique special-edition prints will be followed by an auction.

After two editions plunging into History and the black-and-white archives of its silver collection, the world’s oldest press agency is this time presenting a modern and colourful selection.

‘‘This third edition, entitled Iconoclaste, firmly plunges us into the 21st century. Strangely enough, the selection evokes a feeling of light and energy. It’s as if amidst the chaos of current affairs and the turbulence of our times, these pristine snapshots emerge’’ emphasises Marielle Eudes, Director of Special Photo Projects at AFP.

Among the photographers on show: Yasuyoshi Chiba, Brendan Smialowski, Dimitar Dilkoff, John Wessels, Bülent Kiliç, Mohammed Abed…

Auction sale

The auction, conducted by Elsa Joly-Malhomme (ADER Entreprises & Patrimoine, expert: Antoine Romand), will take place on Saturday 14 October from 2pm at the Quai de la Photo and online at drouot.com.

The lots for sale are high-quality modern prints made by the Picto laboratory and presented in Nielsen frames. They are signed, dry-stamped and certified by AFP, “special edition N°1/1”, and are unique in format.

All the funds raised by this third edition will go towards restoring and conserving the Agency’s photographic holdings (6 million silver documents, including 350,000 glass plates), an invaluable historical, cultural and artistic heritage.
