Exhibition at Quai de la Photo: The Seine, the Seine

Spéos has invested in Quai de la Photo, a new floating art center dedicated to contemporary photography that opened its doors to the public in July 2023 on the Seine.

Moored in the heart of Paris, Quai de la Photo celebrates the river that hosts it with an exhibition bearing its name: “The Seine, the Seine”.

Presented from June 5th to September 8th, 2024, this exhibition traces the evolution of the riverbanks since 1860 and offers a social and historical journey along the quays, at a time when Paris is embarking on a significant process of transforming its hosting spaces for the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.

An exhibition in two parts

The exhibition has the particularity of being composed of two parts:

Entitled “Right Bank, Left Bank“, the first part invites you on a journey through time. The exhibition brings together more than 80 photographs ranging from the second half of the 19th century to the 1960s. It allows rediscovering the vast changes of the Seine riverbanks. These archives are presented in partnership with the gallery and the historical agency Roger-Viollet. They are exhibited in the gallery of Quai de la Photo.

The second part of the exhibition, “The Source” by Frédéric Stucin, is a journey between reality and imagination that goes back to the source of the Seine, on the Langres plateau. This journey is guided by the inhabitants of the riverbanks. In meeting them, the photographer seeks to resonate with the adage “those who live near the river are soothed by its presence”. This second exhibition can be found on the outdoor terrace of Quai de la Photo.
