Quai de la Photo, the new floating art center dedicated to contemporary photography, arrived in Paris on Monday June 5, 2023. The floating building left the Dieppe shipyard to sail up the Seine to its arrival point in the 13th arrondissement. It is now moored at 9 port de la Gare, at the foot of the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
A place dedicated to photography
Quai de la Photo will feature free, open-access exhibitions by some of the great names in photography, as well as emerging artists. An exhibition by British photographer Martin Parr, sponsoring young photographer Clémentine Schneidermann, will launch the official inauguration of the venue in July.
It will also soon be possible to book introductory studio courses and photographic cruises on the Seine.
A multi-faceted venue
Featuring a 120-square-meter exhibition gallery and terrace, as well as a specialized bookshop and restaurant-bar, the new art center also includes an integrated marina. This will house four small pleasure boats and three collector’s boats, intended for river excursions.
It can also be used for private photography-related events, such as prize-giving ceremonies and auctions. It can accommodate up to 900 people.
