Paris Match Student Photojournalism Award 2024: The Winner is a Graduate of Spéos!
Once again, an unforgettable evening for Spéos, this Friday, November 22, 2024, aboard the boat Le Renoir! This year, Spéos is proud to announce that, for the fourth consecutive year, one of its students has won the Grand Prix Paris Match for Student Photojournalism 2024. Congratulations to Jet Ter Halle, winner for her powerful series “Afghan Women Under Taliban Rule.”
About the Winning Photo Series
With this photo report, Jet Ter Halle sheds light on the struggles and resistance of Afghan women living under Taliban rule since August 2021. In February and March 2024, she traveled to different regions of Afghanistan to listen to these women and give them a voice.
In a country where 85% of the population now lives below the poverty line, women and girls face systematic violations of their fundamental rights: girls over the age of 12 are banned from attending school, women are not allowed to work, and they can only appear in public with their faces and bodies fully covered, accompanied by a male guardian.
Despite the oppressive regime, which imposed even stricter restrictions on August 21, 2024, Afghan women continue to resist, and this work captures their strength, giving them a voice in a world where they have been silenced.
About the Winner
Originally from the Netherlands, Jet Ter Halle is a documentary photographer. In her approach, she spends significant time with her subjects in their daily lives, exploring what they feel and express. She is also specialized in corporate photography. She enjoys portraying the stories of entrepreneurs, their passion, the process behind their services, and the people involved.
