About the exhibition
Between the twilight of an era and the dawn of a new one, between wonder and critical reflection, the images shown in this exhibition pay tribute to the splendor of what is often ignored, to the fleeting beauty that eludes us in our hectic daily lives. They highlight the fragility of the conditions that create life, linger on its beauty, and question the impact of human activity.
In a context where it is tempting to deny the magnitude of possible climate dramas — given our growing anxiety about these issues and our sometimes inhibiting sense of powerlessness — it seems crucial to direct our energy, nourished by the beauty that nature and life offer us, toward constructive action, however modest, and thus work to create the hoped-for world whose timid dawn we perceive.
Being open to observing and listening to faint signals, voices, and silent images encourages us to cultivate the capacity for wonder that lies dormant within us. Contemporary ecological issues require us to embrace an era of “taking care” of both our humanity and the fragile ecosystem that supports, shelters and nourishes us. These images attempt to highlight the tension of a world oscillating between disorder and the quest for resilience, between nostalgia and hope.
About the photographer
After several years working in communication and marketing departments in agencies and companies, Frédérique Fleurance enrolled at the Beaux-Arts in Tours, France, and discovered the practice of image making with photographer Valérie Belin. In 2003, she received a Diplôme National Supérieur d’Expression Plastique, supervised by photographer Jean-Louis Garnell. The respective practices of these two artists taught her the many ways to approach this highly sensitive medium. Their teachings had a profound impact on Frédérique and contributed to the development of her own artistic practice.
Several workshops with Claudine Doury further nourished her work and sharpened her eye, in 2015 and 2017. Frédérique Fleurance then completed the Professional Photography Fundamentals at Spéos, graduating in 2019.
Since then, in addition to her work as a visual artist and photographer, Frédérique has dedicated her time and energy to working with various audiences in various areas related to art, creation and health.
The AUBUSCULE exhibition is the third chapter of the CAREFORARTFORCARE work in progress, after the CIIEL and SOLOR exhibitions.
