Virginia Zeqireya, “Variations”

Virginia Zeqireya presents “Variations” at the Spéos Gallery, 7 rue Jules Vallès 75011 Paris, from April 11 to May 12, 2017.
Opening of the exhibition: April 11th, from 7pm to 9pm.

The creatures of Virginia’s work are “Variations on the Human”. From the representation of people with their domestic animals emerged her idea of an ironic inversion of roles, giving life to new entities born of the encounter between the person and the pet. A fusion of love and an act of reciprocal faithfulness, in which the one becomes indistinguishable from the other; so that we wonder if the person selects the animal or the opposite, and in which the particular personality of each is renounced and replaced by beings on the margins of reality; alarming individuals of uncertain nature; surreal creatures of daily life.

Virginia Zeqireya was born in Rome, Italy, in 1984. She is an art historian and freelance photographer based in Italy between Rome and Modena. After discovering a special interest in the history of photography during her university studies, she decided to start learning photographic techniques to better understand her predecessors and to express herself by developing a personal photographic language. She started her career as an assistant in different photographers’ studios in Italy, but soon decided to go learn to “write with light” in the most appropriate place in the world… La Ville Lumière!
Currently she is back in Italy, still working on developing her own language made of surrealism and inner research. While continuing “Variations”, which is a long term project, she is working as a portrait photographer and a self-portrait artist, and also as a curator of TAG – Tevere Art Gallery, in Rome.

Virginia is a class 2013 Alumni from the European Master of professional photography.
