Olesya Shilkina, “It was a pleasure to meet you”

Olesya Shilkina presents “It was a pleasure to meet you “at the Spéos Gallery– 7 rue Jules Vallès, 75011 Paris, from November 29, 2016 to January 13, 2017.

The project “It was a pleasure to meet you” is conceived as a series of mise-en-scene, where characters are placed in dramatic tension with their past : the image is a two-dimensional portrayal of a three-dimensional drama, and the shrouded figures embody the ghosts of the past in this theatre.
How can we transfer the drama of a scene to its visual record, when most of what goes on in life is invisible?

Olesya strives to work with people and characters. To conceive an image, an idea, for a specific person and then create it. Her portraits show a glimpse of what is hidden, they show the face of the person that one does not usually see: “I try to create dramatic portraits that are at the same time poetic. Every character in my universe has their own drama, and every portrait is my own portrait too.”

Olesya Shilkina is a Russian portrait photographer graduated from Spéos in 2014. She lives in Paris & works worldwide. Her work is represented by Leon Agency in Paris.
