About the BIFA
The Budapest International Foto Awards (BIFA) present photographers in various categories to share their best images with the creative communities in Hungary and Eastern Europe in general.
About the “Birth” series
With his series “Birth“, Pedro Mendes Levier covered the birth of his daughter Alix, taken with the old camera of his partner’s father, Alix’s grandfather, who passed away over 25 years ago.
This old Pentax K1000 produces supernatural photos by chance, as the photo shows (shot on Ilford Delta 3200).
About Pedro Mendes Levier
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he started his professional career as a creative for advertising agencies, then worked for production companies as a director and scriptwriter. He then worked for 7 years on the Sunday prime time TV show in Brazil as a visual journalist, mainly with social and investigative topics.
In 2019, he moved to Paris to attend the Creative Documentary Course by Magnum Photos & Spéos program. Mixing his background in advertising, film and journalism, he uses photography or video to produce reality-based stories with strong visual narratives.
